MECCA also provides a residential treatment program for recovering male substance abusers over the age of 18. The purpose is to assist people in integrating a more successful and healthful lifestyle by providing support, education and counseling in a semi-structured living environment. An employee assistance program provides area employers with a systematic procedure to assist troubled employees to become more productive.

Services include superviser training workshops, assessment and referral, and follow-up. MECCA operates prevention programs, including special workshops, presentations and inservices related to substance abuse prevention and wellness. MECCA also provides information about other community resources, including Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. University of Iowa Chemical Dependency Center (Oakdale Campus), 3534412. Dr.

Rubin Widmer, medical director. The center, part of the University of Iowa, is an in-patient alcohol and substance abuse treatment center. Both individual and group therapy are offered. Arthur Schut, director. MECCA offers out-patient counseling services for individuals, groups and families, including assessment, referral and consultation. Services are available to individuals having problems with substances, their families, significant others and other ics can join Al-Anon, which meets at 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays at 511 Melrose at 8 p.m. Fridays at Veterans Medical Center (Room 119, third floor), and at 11 a.m.

Saturdays at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Teen-agers with relatives and friends who are alcoholics can join Alateen, which meets Mondays at 8 p.m. at 511 Melrose Ave. Alakid meets at 8 p.m. Tuesdays at 511 Melrose Ave.

Iowa City Crisis Center, 26 E. Market 351-0140. Ken Kauppi, director. The Iowa City Crisis Center, an information, counseling and referral service, operates a 24-hour hotline (351-0140). Its offices are open each day from 11 a.m.

to 2 a.m. to provide general information and to counsel walk-ins. The office is wheel-chair accessible. The center's crisis intervention program provides counseling and emergency transportation for medical emergencies, including drug overdose and potential suicide. It operates a message relay center for the deaf from 8 a.m.

to 2 a.m. Its food bank program provides food and other crucial resources, and its emergency assistance program helps travelers who are stranded in Johnson County.
