A well-known comedy and successful movie, "Bus Stop" is set in a stree-corner restaurant, named Grace's Diner, in a small town 30 miles west of Kansas City. Eight people are marooned together during a storm, and they all have something to say about love. Cherie, played by Nancy VanEperen, calls herself a chanteuse and is running away from a cowboy named Bo Decker, played by Richard Paul Ballantyne, who won't take no for an answer. Dr. Gerald Lyman, played by Richard Houston, is an unemployed college professor who has experienced too much love and too many wives.

Alcohol is now his mistress and he humorously laments his losses and inadequacies. Irene Barber plays Elma, a young woman who has never been in love, while her employer Grace, characterized by Jane Gray, has learned to love in small doses.
