(AP) Vice President Spiro T. Agnew has taken another swing at what he terms the "liberal news of this country," adding he will continue to do so until they lower their voices a few decibels. Speaking to about 600 Republicans at a $500-a-plate fund raising dinner Friday night, Agnew said President Nixon "has refused to curb my statements on behalf of this administration or to tell me what words use or what tone to take in my speeches." his targets were the New York Times, the New York Among Post and the Washington Post, rfom which he cited editoral comments. Television and radio also came under criticism again. "Nowhere is complaint louder than in the columns and editorials of liberal news media of this country, those really illiberal, self-appointed of our destiny who guardians would like to run the country without ever submitting to the elective process as we in public office must do," he said.

As Agnew spoke, about 300 antiwar demonstrators marched outside the hotel where he was speaking. No trouble was reported. Leaving the news media, Agturned to another of his fanew vorite targets, campus demonstrators. attributed campus unrest He to a "small hard core of hell raisers who want to overturn for the sake of chaos the system alone." Although they are few in number they have a shattering impact, he said. Campus dissenters are small encouraged by an 1 equally number of faculty members who apparently cannot compete or do legitimately not chose to do so, Agnew within the system said.

is my honest opinion that "It this hard core of faculty and students should be identified and dismissed from the otherwise healthy body of the college community lest they, said. like a cancer, destroy it," he As for congressional critics on the President's Southeast Asia policy, the vice president said the senators are well intenbut have been in Contioned, so long that it has nargress rowed their viewpoint. Agnew will address the International opening session of the Cancer Congress Sunday in Houston. lowa Law Professor To Tax Unit Prof. Meade Emory, a tax specialist in the University of Iowa College of Law, will join the staff of the Joint Congressional Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation June 1. The committee is a body of the Senate and House which works on tax legislation. Its chairman and vice chairman are Rep. Wilbur Mills, D-Ark, and Sen.

Russell Long, D-La. Emory said, "It appears that the Tax Reform Act of 1969 is only the beginning of new federal legislation in the tax area. In 1970 and 1971 it is likely Congress will consider a complete revision of the federal estate and gift tax areas, which have not been changed substantially since 1942. "Also to be considered will be legislation dealing with the taxation of employe benefits. One of the main thrusts of this legislation will be an effort to equalize the tax treatment accorded employed and self-employed persons insofar as pension benefits are concerned.

The taxation of U.S. corporations doing business abroad is also likely to be an area of legislative activity." Emory will be on a year's leave of absence from UI. The Joint Committee, with a staff of seven lawyers and six economists, prepares the committee reports of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. It also assembles technical data, confers with the Treasury Department in preparing administrative proposals and explains bills to the Ways and Means and Finance Committees in executive sessions which decide on the form legis(lation is to take. Jefferson conducted an indepth survey of teachers in one urban and one suburban school in the Chicago area. Urban teachers find their greatest dissatisfaction with stu dent academic performance, help from superiors, relation ships with students' parents, the priorities of education at local, state and federal levels, and, their professional gain while teaching in the school, he said. Coralville Chamber To Hear Candidate CORALVILLE Joseph Thornton, candidate for the Democratic nomination for Johnson County attorney, will speak at the regular luncheon meeting of the Coralville Chamber of Commerce Monday noon at the Carousel Restaurant. important, Jefferson said. is that urban teachers are more likely than suburban teachers to question the competence of fellow teachers. They are less satisfied with students' attitude toward the faculty, the attitude of other teachers working in the school, the amount of required non-teaching activities and the possibility of achieving life goals in the classroom. Urban school teachers are less likely to consider remaining in their schools than suburban teachers, Jefferson's study indicates.

To improve urban education he believes solutions to problems must come through the efforts of capable and understanding teachers and administrators. John McCarthy Seeks Kennedy Senate Seat BOSTON (AP) John J. McCarthy, a former state administration commissioner, said Friday he will seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Edward M. Kennedy.

McCarthy, 60, is a retired Army colonel who held the commissioner's post, an appointive position that involves serving as the governor's right man in finance and administration, for two years under former Gov. John A. Volpe. McCarthy said the candidacy of Josiah A. Spaulding, a former Republican state chairman who also seeks the Senate nomination, is "politically presumptious and philosophically preposterous." HAVE YOU HEARD?
