Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at George L. Gay Funeral Home, with burial in Oxford Cemetery. The Rev. Harry Imlay will officiate.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A general memorial was established. Mrs. Koepp was born July 29, 1920, in Clinton, to Arthur and Louise (Holle) Clark.

She married George L. Koepp March 19, 1938, at Davenport. She was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Ladies Eagles No. 695 Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Gerald A. of Iowa City; one daughter, Sally (Mrs. Raymond) Ceynar of Oxford; four grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. Her parents, husband and three brothers died earlier. Byerl Baines, 60 Byerl Baines, 60, 33 Hilltop Trailer Court, died Sunday at University Hospital after a long illness.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at George L. Gay Funeral Home, with burial in Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Davison will officiate.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday. A general memorial was established. Mr. Baines was born July 16, 1932, in Iowa City, to George W.

and Minnie (Sexton) Baines. He attended Iowa City schools. He married Wendy Fandrei July 17, 1982, in Iowa City. Survivors include his wife of Iowa City; four daughters, Kim (Mrs. Ted) Hesseltine of Coralville, Sam Baines Neuzil of Bettendorf, Jani Kincade of Iowa City and Dee (Mrs.

Jeff) Stratton of Homestead; one stepdaughter, Heather West of Maryville, Mo; two stepsons, Ryan and Damian West, both of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; five sisters, Pearl Rutledge of Galesburg, 111., Ruby Seydel and Sadie Kane, both of Iowa City, Mary Bittenger of Indianola and Ann Goodwin of Capitan, N.M.; two brothers, Emil of Columbus, Ga. and John of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, six brothers and sisters and one daughter died earlier. Poula, 87, Swisher, died Saturday at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. A memorial services will be at 1 1 a.m. Wednesday at Shueyville United Methodist Church with burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev.

Thomas Carver will officiate. There will be no visitation. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church or Swisher American Legion Auxiliary No. 671.

Mrs. Poula was born May 12, 1905, in Johnson County. She married Edward Poula Feb. 19, 1927, in Cedar Rapids. She was a homemaker and a member of Shueyville United Methodist Church, Swisher American Legion Auxiliary No.

671, Women of the Moose and Jefferson Township Homemakers Club. She graduated from University High School in 1923 and attended Coe College. She taught rural school in Johnson County for four years. Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn M. Birky of Swisher; two sons, John of Swisher and David of Iowa City; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren and 12 step greatgrandchildren.

Earl Waldschmidt Earl Waldschmidt, 89, formerly of Riverside, died Saturday at Pleasantview Home in Kalona. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The Rev.

Rudy Berndt will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Sorden Funeral Home, Riverside, where there will be rosaries at 4 and 7 p.m. A general memorial was established. Mr.

Waldschmidt was born May 3, 1903, in Riverside to Joseph and Viola (Kueneman) Waldschmidt. He marrried Helen Wiese Nov. 27, 1929, in Iowa City. She died in 1943. He was a farmer and a member of St.

Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include one son, Elmer of Riverside; two daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Cliff) Shalla of Kalona and Marjorie (Mrs. Joe) Gase of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Loretta Cameron of Troy Mills, LaVerne Schnoebelen of Moline, 111., and Inez Brandt of Iowa City; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. His parents, one son, one grandson, four brothers and five sisters also died earlier.

Richard G. Stuelke, 58, formerly of West Branch, died Saturday at his home in Anamosa. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Branch United Methodist Church, with burial in West Branch Cemetery. The body was cremated.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home, West Branch. A general memorial was established. Dr. Stuelke was born Jan.

17, 1933, in Council Bluffs to Gay-lord and Gladys (Dain) Stuelke. He attended Council Bluffs schools. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He opened a medical practice in West Branch in 1958. He was active in the West Branch Chamber of Commerce and was chairman of Hoover Presidential Library Dedication Committee.

He moved to Durham, N.C., where he was director of the Duke Medical Center. He opened a diet clinic there and authored Thin For Life. He served as medical administrator at the veterans hospital while at Duke. He then returned to the West Branch Anamosa area. He practiced in Anamosa.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Susan Hora of Roxboro, N.C., Jane Crock of Des Moines and Erin Stuelke of Durham, N.C.; three sons, Dixon of Green Isle, William of Chicago, and Richard of Anamosa; one brother, David of Hot Springs, Ark; his father of Nashua; and six grandchildren. Porter, 38, of Kansas City, was charged with possession of marijuana and theft second degree at 4:22 p.m. Sunday, records show. He was driving a stolen car from Kansas City, Mo. Various locations. Seven people were charged with drunken driving during the weekend.

1312 Muscatine Ave. Craig Fredericks, 35, of 1312 Muscatine was charged with serious assault at 3:11 a.m. Sunday, records show. 200 block of Dartmouth Street. A burglary was reported at 11:12 p.m.

Saturday. A basement was broken into but the residents -did not know what was taken. CORALVILLE 800 block of 23rd Avenue. Dona J. Saforek, 44, of West Branch was charged with drunken driving at 11:45 p.m.

Friday, records show. 1900 block of Second Street. John F. Degl, 19, of 2233 Oakleaf was charged with drunken driving at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, records show.

Kienzle to head Iowa cardiologists Dr. Michael G. Kienzle, associate professor of internal medicine at the UI College of Medicine, was recently appointed president of the newly formed Iowa Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (ACC). Kienzle, a specialist in cardiovascular diseases, is recognized for his research on abnormalities of heart-rate control and therapeutics aimed at treating people at high risk for sudden cardiac death. The ACC Board of Trustees approved provisional chapter status for Iowa in Ocotber. Cancer Society gives researcher seed grant The American Cancer Society has awarded $7,500 to a junior faculty member at the University of Iowa College of Medicine for cancer research. Dr.

Thomas L. Carlisle, instructor in internal medicine, will receive the 'seed' grant through the UI Cancer Center to study the effect of drugs that lower blood fat in genes involved in the body's mechanisms for making fat. Earlier this fall, six UI investigators received a total of $90,000 from the American Cancer Society. Ul briefs Weiler will investigate advance directives use Kay Weiler, assistant professor at the UI College of Nursing, has received a $106,000 grant to as-'. sess patients' knowledge and use of advance directives, such as a living will and durable power of attorney for health care.

The study, which runs until September 1995, will involve interviews with 500 patients from six Iowa hospitals. Hospital records also will be reviewed to see if patient preferences and decisions are being documented. According to the federal Patient Self Determination Act, written information about legal options for advance diiectives must be given to adult patients when they are admitted to a health care facility..
