is charged with fourth-degree theft. The charges stem from an incident in February when, police allege, Brown rented a car and paid for it with bad checks. She has not yet paid the rental agency, police say. The total value of the checks, which, police say, Brown has not declared stolen, value $243.20. Brown was released on $650 bond.

Assault Dale Lynn Eakes, 39, of 361 Western Hills Trailer Court, Coralville, was charged with assault causing injury on June 7 at 361 Western Hills Trailer Court. He was released on $1,500 bond. Drunken driving Russell Kenneth Kiefer, 42, of El Paso, Texas, was charged with drunken driving and child endangerment on June 8 at 6:01 p.m. near the 239 mile marker on 1-80. He had a child riding with him as he was weaving out of the right lane and onto the shoulder, Iowa State Patrol records show.

Kiefer was released on $3,000 bond. Paul Joseph Naughton, 53, of 1118 Cottonwood Iowa City, was charged with second-offense drunken driving on June 9 at 10:05 p.m. by the Iowa State Patrol on Highway 1, just east of the Wal-Mart intersection. Court records show Naughton was released on his own recognizance and ordered to undergo substance abuse evaluation. Robbery William Daniel Krause, 37, of 1402 Lakeside Manor, was charged with second-offense robbery on June 8 at 10:07 p.m.

He was released on $15,000 bond for robbery and $1,500 bond for interference with official acts. Absence from custody Stephen Michael Fairley, 32, of 2501 Holiday Road, Coralville, is charged with failing to return to Hope House, a community-based corrections facility, on June 4. Police records show Fairley, who was assigned to Hope House as a condition of work release, had an appointment at the University of Iowa Psychiatric Clinic and was scheduled to return to Hope House. Police records say Fairley had failed to return and his whereabouts are still unknown at this time. Hess, 86, of 2801 Highway 6 East, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at the Iowa City Rehabilitation and Care Center after a long illness. Arrangements are pending at George L. Gay Funeral Home Crematorium. Rosetta Von Ahsen, 76 Rosetta Adelheid Von Ahsen, 76, of Williamsburg, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, at Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo after a long illness. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Williamsburg. Visitation will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid or Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg.

Mrs. Von Ahen was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Arhana to Otto Sr. and Carolina (Kummer) Hopp. She attended schools in the Williamsburg and Conroy areas.

She married Arthur Von Ahsen on May 21, 1945, in Conroy. She lived on the family farm near Williamsburg, until she became a resident at Marengo Memorial Hospital in November 1994. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and the afternoon Bible study. Survivors include her husband; one son and his wife, Keith and Anita of Williamsburg; two daughters, Diane Welsh and her husband, Ed, of Higley, and Leane Von Ahsen of Williamsburg; one sister and her husband, Regina and Harold Maas of Blairstown; and eight grandchildren. Her parents; one brother, Raymond; and one granddaughter, Melissa, died earlier.

William Singleman, 87 William H. Singleman, 87, of 2801 Hwy 6 East, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at Greenwood Convalescent Care Center after a long illness. Graveside services with military rites will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.

Thursday at Callahan Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Senior Citizens Center-Meals on Wheels. Mr. Singleman was born June 30, 1909, in Wellman to Charles and Barbara (Miller) Singleman. He married Arlene Parker on June 26, 1947, in Iowa City.

He was employed as a projectionist at the Englert, Varsity and Strand theaters. He also owned and operated the William Singleman Sons Trucking, retiring in 1971. He was a veteran of World War n. He was a volunteer for the Iowa City Senior Center, delivering Meals on Wheels for seven years. He was a lifetime member of the Iowa City V.F.W.

and the V.F.W. in Santa Clara, Calif. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carol Maske and her husband, Ron, of North Liberty, Beverly Singelman of Las Cruces, N.M., and Janet Zeute- nhorst of Winterset; four sons, Charles Singleman and his wife, Pam, of Iowa City, Stephen Singleman of Milwaukee, Gary Singelman and his wife, Michelle, of Canoga Park, and Kevin Singleman and his wife, Janet, of North Liberty; one sister and her husband, Marguerite and Burrell Matthess of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Four brothers and three sisters died earlier.
