He was born November 18, 1970 in Jerome, Idaho. His sudden death leaves an empty place in our hearts.

Norma Myers, 86 Norma Myers died December 12, 2006 in Sioux Falls, S.D. She was born June 2, 1920 to Will and Anna Rowland Griffith in Iowa City, Iowa and was raised on the Griffith Dairy farm North of Sharon Center, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa City High School and attended Myers Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa for one year. She married Lloyd Logan Myers on December 25, 1938 and they farmed and their family in the North Liberty, Iowa area until Lloyd's death 1977. For many years they operated: dairy, bottling and selling the milk.

After a few years they opened a drive-in and miniature golf course called The Purple Cow west of Coralville, Iowa. In 1972, they moved and built a new restaurant in North Liberty, also called The Purple Cow. Norma was active as a girl's 4- leader and in the North Liberty United Methodist Church as a vocal soloist, singing at many weddings and funerals with her husband, Lloyd. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, traveling and her family. After Lloyd's death, Norma operated the Country Cousins Antique Shop in the remodeled dairy barn at their farm until she retired in the early 1990's.

In 1998, she moved to Hickory Grove, South Carolina and lived with her son, John and his wife, Jan, until February, 2004 when she moved to Inwood, Iowa to be near her daughter, Marianna Trott. She is survived by 2 sons, Michael (Marsha) Myers and John (Jan) Myers, 2 daughters, Marianna (Emil) Trott, and Janet (Bill) Trautman, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, one son, William, her parents and 4 brothers, Rowland, Harold, Quentin, and John Griffith and 2 great -grandchildren. No funeral services are planned, but a celebration of life in her honor will be held July 10, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in North Liberty when her extended family can attend. University of Iowa College of Law associate dean Linda McGuire presented White with the college's distinguished alumni service award. McGuire worked with White in the county attorney's office from 1982 to 1990.

"During the time I worked with him, he was a real leader in the state," McGuire said, adding that the county attorney's office took on cases that likely would not have been tried in other counties. "He pushed us hard, but he also pushed the law hard." Area law enforcement officials presented White with a plaque. Lyness also gave him a framed photograph of the courthouse. White has been a staunch supporter and admirer of the building for many years and said that one of his biggest regrets about retirement is that he won't be around to be a "cheerleader" for the courthouse. Lyness said White was the one who first encouraged her to run for county attorney.

She told White it was an honor to work for him. "You set the gold standard," she said to White, "and we appreciate that." JCCOG Raid From 1A From 1A an engineering firm with an Iowa City office. The city of Coralville commissioned the firm to do the roads study as a part of a develplan for the Scanlon farmland. In October, the board voted that a new comprehensive study needed to be done in the area because residents felt the Coralville -commissioned study was narrow in scope and biased. A completely new study would cost about $135,000 with North Liberty and Coralville footing the bill.

At Wednesday's meeting, JCCOG board member and North Liberty City Councilor James Wozniak said the city would be willing to share the cost, but not half. "We're willing to pay our fair share," he said. Henry Herwig, JCCOG representative and Coralville City Council member, said he would like to know more about exactly what would be studied before committing the city's money. "Are we willing to pick up 100 percent of it? No," he Wozniak Herwig said. "We have some issues with how much of the previous study can be used." Some residents who spoke at Wednesday's meeting said they still wanted the process to be open to public input and comprehensive.

Some residents also said it might be best to wait until the annexation dispute is decided. "Listening to all the comments, it seems to make sense to deal with the annexation issues," said Beth Davidson, a Johnson County resident. We use a research-tested curriculum that has been proven effective in speech and language development. We carefully chart a classroom course to help children become successful and responsible students and community members.

In the end, it was the curriculum of kindness that was the most important thing we had to offer Jenna. And ultimately it was kindness that brought Jenna back into this world. When I think of Jenna, I am reminded how easy it is to get caught up in our busy lives and forget the importance of demonstrating kindness, patience and love. Much can be accomplished when we extend our trust and assume responsibility for people who are vulnerable. Our actions create a currency of kindness that I believe will be paid back to us in our vulnerable moments.

Your contribution to United Way's safety net of partner agencies ensures that help will be here when it is needed. Today, Jenna is a teenager. 1 I can't say for sure what is going on in her life. I am hopeful that she is surrounded by people who care for her and who continue to share their kindness with her. And, perhaps just as important, I hope she has kindness to share with others.

"As far as we know right now, they have not been able to receive access to legal counsel." Counts said detainees will have opportunities to meet with lawyers in preparation for hearings with a federal immigration judge, the first step in the deportation process. Fallout from the raids also focused on the treatment of arrested workers by federal ICE agents. Union and social service officials say some workers were beaten in the raid or had jewelry or personal belongings taken.
