19 in died Thursday at the Lutheran Home in Muscatine after a short illness. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. She was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Moscow, a daughter of Frederick and Emma Hahn Bailey.

She married George Schneider Sept. 30. 1958. at Tipton. He died in 1972.

She attended school at Moscow and West Liberty. She was employed at Louis Rich Foods in West Liberty for 17 years and later was a homemaker. Survivors include six sisters, Norma Finucan of West Liberty, Nola Krogman and Marilyn J. Weig, both of Muscatine, Maxine Young of Oxford, Sandra Lind-horst of Davenport and Paulette Salladay of Morning Sun; two brothers, Frederick Bailey of Le Claire and Dr. Gary Bailey of Kennewick, a special friend, P.B.

Wessel of Wilton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents, a sister and a brother also died earlier. Richard Voots, 69 Services for Richard Voots, 69, of Iowa City will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the Callahan Funeral Home.

Mr. Voots died Thursday in Mercy Hospital after a short illness. The body has been cremated. A general memorial fund has been established. Mr.

Voots was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Quincy, 111., a son of Joseph and Helen Young Voots. He married Vevalee Voots Nov. 20, 1945, in Miami, Fla. He was a research professor in the otolaryngology department at University Hospitals for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Donald of Iowa City and Geary of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Myralee Voots of Iowa City; and two brothers, N. James of Quincy, 111. and David E. of Joliet, 111. His parents died earlier.

"Jim" Ashby, 64, 811 Edgewater Drive, Coralville, died Friday at Morning Sun Care Center after a long illness. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. The Rev.

Richard White will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations will go to University of Iowa Handicap Schools. He was born Dec.

27, 1926, in Oakville, a son of Fred and Marie Hartsock Ashby. He married Carolyn King Sept. 19, 1964, at Lone Tree. He graduated from Wapello High School and attended Parson's College. He worked for Northwestern Bell for 34 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a paratrooper in World War II, and a member of the Coraville American Legion, Northwestren Bell Co. Pioneers, and received the Theodore M. Vail Bronze Medal for heroic deeds in 1957. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Renee (Mrs. Ronald) Kelley of Burlington; a son, Craig Ashby of Phoenix, a stepdaughter, Cheryl (Mrs.

Bill) White of North Liberty; a brother, Darrell Ashby of Morning Sun; a sister, Elda Harbison of Anchorage, Alaska; and one grandson. His parents died earlier. Jack W. French, 54 Jack W. French, 54, of Cam-anche formerly of Iowa City died Friday at Samaritan South Hospital in Clinton, of a heart attack.

Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home in Camanche, with burial in Roseville Cemetery in Camanche. The Rev. George Mullen of the First Assembly of God in Iowa City will officiate. Mr.

French was born Aug. 22, 1936, in Floris, the son of George and Ruth Sly Burton. He worked for the Iowa Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector for more than 10 years. He was in the Army from 1953-1955. He had lived in Camanche since 1983.

He is survived by his fiancee, Karen Hovell of Camanche; his mother of Palo Alto, one son, Phillip of Dubuque; two daughters, Terri (Mrs. Tom) Houlihan of Chicago, and Lisa (Mrs. Ron) Bream of Iowa City; three brothers, Herbert of South San Francisco, Grever of Hugo, and, Guy of Lancaster, and 10 grandchildren. His father and one brother died earlier. Vernon Kent, 87 Vernon "Dard" L.

Kent, 87, of Solon died Friday after a long illness. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev.

Francis Lenoch will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Brosh Funeral Home in Solon, where a wake service will begin at 4 p.m. A memorial fund has been established. Mr.

Kent was born Aug. 24, 1903, in Solon, a son of George and Mary Kessler Kent. He married Mamie Krob Zenishek in June 1936. She died in 1971. He married Helen Divoky Stahle May 1972 in Solon.

He was owner and operator of V.L. Kent Trucking Co. and later worked for the State of Iowa. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife; four stepdaughters, Dorothy Ramsey, Lorene Trachta and Delores Trachta, all of Cedar Rapids, and Janice McAtee of Vinton; three stepsons, Robert Zenishek of Eureka, Bill Zenishek and Richard Divoky, both of Solon; three sisters, Ann Vittengl of Cedar Rapids, Clara Ditterline of Buena Park, and Ruth Bringman of Wellman; one brother, Herbert Kent of Well-man; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Today's drawing can be seen at 6:28 p.m. on KWWL-TV, Waterloo, and KWQC-TV, UI briefs 6 UI law students compete in mock trials Six third-year law students from the University of Iowa will represent UI in the regional stage of the American Bar Association's njpek trial competition next weekend in Kansas City, Mo. They are Bill Courter of Boone, Kevin Haughton Of Iowa City and Silver Spring, Kevin Lindsey of Schaumburg, 111., Bruce Nestor of Iowa City, Suzanne Phillips of West Des Moines, and Rita Wall of Cedar Rapids. The six were chosen after the eighth annual Judge Roy L. Stephenson Trial Advocacy Competition last week at the UI College of Law.

Thirty-two law students and 38 judges and lawyers from throughout Iowa participated in the week-long series of competitive mock trials. Nestor and Wall were named best litigators of this year's event. The UI mock trial competition was named in honor of Judge Roy L. Stephenson, a 1940 graduate of the UI College of Law and a former judge of the U.S. District Court and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Stephenson's former law clerks established the fund that supports the competition. Summer jobs fair planned for Feb. 12 Students can get a head start in the summer job market and meet prospective employers Feb. 12 at a UI summer jobs fair. Summer jobs in professions ranging from camp counselors to business associates can be explored at the fair from 10 a.m.

to 3 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union. Cooperative education and course credit also are options. Last year's fair was attended by 56 employers, representing more than 2,500 job opportunities. A "Summer Jobs are Hot" program will be offered from 4 to 5 p.m.
