"This was a unique time in our lives where we are all adults living in the same city," Vikram said. Veena Patel added, "That's what I'm going to miss, the joy of seeing your family on the street" The experience of reconnecting as adults has made the college experience a special time for the Patels. They have edited each others' papers, brainstormed, gave each other rides and had family dinners every other week. But now, the Patels will disperse again. Veena Patel is going to San Jose, to teach elementary school students as part of Teach for America.

Vikram Patel and Shores are looking around the country for a job for Vikram and an artist-in-residency program for Shores. Jennifer Patel plans to remain in Iowa City working at the Domestic Violence Intervention Program. "It's exciting, but it's also kind of sad because I liked (having) everyone in Iowa City, and now everyone is moving away," Jennifer Patel said. "It's been nice to have my family together." Family Continued from 1A "It definitely does make the day more meaningful. It's not just you graduating, but you are proud for all of your family members," said Vikram Patel, who will receive a master's degree in physics.

One might expect a major party for the Patels, but celebrating hasn't been the focus when everyone in the family is studying for finals and finishing up papers and theses. "We've been so busy, we haven't really had time to plan it," Vikram Patel said. "We'll do something in a few weeks." UI officials said they are not aware of this many members of the same family graduating at once. UI estimates 4,855 students will graduate in spring 2011 commencement ceremonies. The ceremonies began Thursday with the UI College of Pharmacy ceremony; Friday had ceremonies for the Colleges of Law and Medicine and the School of Management.

Today is the heaviest day for graduation, with the large College of Liberal Arts and Sciences ceremony at 9 a.m. at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, along with ceremonies for the Colleges of Engineering at 11 a.m. at the The Patel family says their rare graduation feat was unplanned. The family had been separated for about five years before reuniting "serendipi-tously" in college in Iowa City. After growing up in Cedar Rapids, Veena and Vikram moved to Texas, where Veena finished high school and Vikram started and completed his undergraduate degree.

Vikram Patel later applied to several graduate programs for plasma physics but chose UI because it had one of the top programs in the country and he felt connected with the faculty, he said. Meanwhile, once the middle sibling, Kiren Patel, 25, graduated from high school, mom Jennifer and Kiren moved to Iowa City and enrolled as undergraduates at UI together. Shores' and Vikram Patel's relationship began in Iowa City in 2006, and they Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, Nursing at 2 p.m. at the Iowa Memorial Union Main Lounge, and the Graduate College at 3 p.m. at Carver.

The Patels and Shores are graduating today, and their ceremonies are staggered so they can all attend each one. "Me and Liz will graduate in the morning. Then we'll go have lunch, and then we'll go to Vik's and mom's in the afternoon," said Veena Patel, who will receive a bachelor's degree in geography. Shores is receiving a bachelor's in fine arts, and Jennifer Patel is completing her master's in rehabilitation counseling. The UI Tippie College of Business will have a ceremony at 1 p.m.

Sunday at CHA. The UI College of Dentistry will cap off graduation season with a ceremony at 3 p.m. June 3 at the Marriott. Miller Continued from 1A was selected as one of 12 medical students and residents nationwide to edit an issue of this year's journal. "I think it's a wonderful opportunity," said Lauris Kaldjian, associate professor in the department of internal medicine at UI and director of the program in bioethics and humanities in the Carver College of Medicine.

"For a student to play this kind of role of engaging an important issue is something relatively rare. To add this to an already thick portfolio is highly commendable." Once accepted in fall 2009, Miller dove into the research on her issue topic: it i "Before this, I would have been shy talking to those people or asking for help, but I had to get over that," she said. Miller said the experience helped confirm her decision to focus her career on family practice. "I worked with a lot of family doctors, and they were all fantastic," she said. "It was good to know the personality fit was there." She said it was challenging at times to balance her school work load with working on the journal, but Miller said she would do it all again if she could.

"I think it'd be a lot easier the second time around," she said. "I was surprised by how much I liked it I really enjoyed the creative aspects, choosing a focus and selecting the issues I thought were important" preSS Citlzen.COm Delores Mullinnix, 63 Delores R. "We're going country this year," ICCCVB president Josh Schamberger hinted at the FRY Fest news conference April 21. Organizers said this year's FRY Fest is shaping up to be even better than in past years. "Our goal was to create an event celebrating all that is Hawkeye," Schamberger said. "Our fans agree that we've been able to do just that." This year's event will honor 1972 Olympic gold medalist and former Iowa wrestling coach Dan Gable "a country fan," Haman said. It also will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Scottish Highlanders and the 25th anniversary of the University of Iowa women's field hockey national championship.

Activities planned before the evening concert include a live production of "This is Your Life" with Gable, a Tailgate Row, a kids' zone and the return of the world's largest Hawkeye tradeshow. Proceeds from the concert will go to Coralville's 4thFEST, where Gable will be the grand marshal for the annual Fourth of July parade. rural health. "I think they thought since I was from Iowa, I would know a lot," she said. "But I didn't know anything about the ethics surrounding rural health.

It was a real learning experience." She spent months doing background research and talking with doctors and professors at UI, including Kaldjian, about the topic. As the editor of the issue, she had to write three case studies about rural health issues, such as lack of specialized care, concerns with privacy in small-town clinics and hospitals and concerns surrounding telemedicine. Miller also had to find experts to contribute, which she says was one of the hardest, and most rewarding, parts of the project "-Us -y 4 Friendly, Reliable, Team Player If this sounds like YOU, we want your application for one of our open positions.
