a i Booth Clibborn last i in a sermon on "The a i of nf i Mrs. Clib- i said i Dan Bothel, one of the pioneer residents of Johnson county, died at 4 o'clock this morning at his home, 21M Burlington street. For the past ten years he has been retired and has lived in Iowa City. He waa a veteran of the Civil war. Mr.

Bethel had been ill since last September, since when he has been. out of the house but a few times. Death resulted from a complication of illnesses which the physicians could not successfully combat, coupled i his age. He would have been 77 years old on April 15, hav- ing been born in 1839. The deceased pioneer was horn in Pennsylvania and enlisted in the Civil war from that state.

After the war he came first to Rock Island, 111., from wihich city he moved to Johnson county, settling first in Scott township, where he lived for eight years. Lincoln township was subsequently his home for twenty- six years and it was ten years ago a Mr. and Mrs. Bothel moved ia- to Towa City. Mr.

Bothel had served for tha past several years as a member of the soldiers' relief committee, but since his illness he has not been, able to give these duties any attention. He was a member of the Masonic lodge. Mrs. Bothel. three sons, and one daughter survive hfm.

The children are John Bothel, Gertrude Lord, Addlow Bothel, and Norwood Bothel, all of Iowa City.
