Smith Dows asked the council for a franchise last night. This was done through the submission of an ordinance. The ordinance committee introduced the ordinance authorizing William G. Dows and Isaac Smith to "construct a system oi electric wires, poles, and other supports; and to construct, equip, maintain and operate a system of street and inter-urban railway In Iowa City, to be operated in connection with a system of jnter-urban railway, a part of which' shall extend from Iowa City to Cedar Rapids. The ordinance provided that tin- tracks, side tracks, turnouts, switches, and the construction necessary power distribution may be laid, place and operated upon the iollowin streets and alleys.
